状语从句是在复合句中修饰主句中的动词、形容词、副词或者整个主句的句子。状语从句由从属连词引导，从属连词在状语从句中不充当句子成分。状语从句可分为时间、原因、条件、目的、结果、比较、方式、地点状语从句和让步状语从句。
（1）由从属连词when引导的时间状语从句。When意为“当……的时侯”，when既可以表示一段时间，一个持续性的动作，也可以表示时间的一个点，一个短暂性的动作。主、从句的动作可以同时发生，从句的动作也可发生在主句之前或之后。例如：
Tom went to work

宾语从句是一个句子在复合句中起宾语的作用，它既可作谓语的宾语，也可作介词的宾语。宾语从句由从属连词that，if，whether，连接代词who，whom，whose，what，which或连接副词when，where，how， why引导。
（1）宾语从句的引导词
①陈述意义的宾语从句由从属连词that引导，that本身没有词义，引导词在从句中不担任从句中的句子成分，在口语或非正式文体中常省略。例如：

before long是个介词短语，在句中作状语，意为“不久以后、很快”，多与将来时或过去时连用。如：
I shall see you again before long．我很快就会再见到你的。
Before long he had to move on．不久他又得搬迁。
long before是个副词短语，意为“很久以前”，多与完成时连用。如：

drop和fall都可以表示人或物从高处掉到低处，有相同之处，也有不同之处。
1）drop和fall都可作不及物动词，表示“掉下、落下”，此时，它们可互换。如：
An apple dropped ／fell from the tree．苹果从树上掉下来了。
The glass dropped ／fell on the ground．杯子掉在了地上。
