北京奥运圣火在雅典交接
北京奥运会圣火3月24日顺利在希腊古奥林匹亚遗址采集，经过在希腊境内的六天传递之后，终于来到了希腊首都雅典的泛雅典体育场(1896首届现代奥运会的主体育场)，在这里，希腊奥委会举行了庄严的交接仪式，把奥运圣火正式移交给北京奥组委。
北京时间20：00，仪式准时开始。中华人民共和国国旗和希腊共和国国旗进入会场，每面旗帜由四人手持。现场奏中华人民共和国国歌，奏希腊共和国国歌。
参与了3月24日采火仪式的女祭司们再次登场亮相，她们每个人都手持橄榄枝，分成三列，随着音乐的伴奏缓缓走入场内，庄严的仪式再现了古典崇高的古代仪式。最后女祭司们在场内的火炬坛前站成一圈，最高女祭司玛丽亚-娜芙普利都手中横抱着一支“祥云”火炬，在火炬台前站定。
这时希腊田径运动员德维茨手持火炬跑进了体育场，她也是希腊境内的最后一棒火炬手。德维茨用手中的火炬点燃了圣火坛，现场观众的情绪也到达了高潮。现场奏起了奥林匹克会歌，由雅典市爱乐乐团演唱。
希腊奥委会主席基里亚库在致辞中说，圣火在希腊境内的传递令人感动，点燃了激情，给人以启迪，她所到之处都会让人产生敬仰、自豪之情，坚定人们追求完美理想和价值的信念，我希望国际社会将以相应的情感和尊重，浓重地迎接奥运圣火。最后基里亚库祝愿北京奥运会取得圆满成功。
北京奥组委主席刘淇在致辞中首先对希腊政府、希腊奥委会和希腊人民在希腊境内成功组织圣火传递所付出的心血，给予北京奥运会的大力支持表示了感谢。他说，熊熊燃烧的奥运圣火将承载着奥林匹克精神飞跃五大洲，把中国人民的友好情谊传给全世界，将驰骋在中华大地，把奥林匹克的精神播种到中国人民的心中，将登顶珠穆朗玛峰，把奥林匹克运动的理念带到世界之巅！刘淇最后用英语欢迎希腊和世界各地的朋友们参加北京奥运会！
