Hi everyone. I am Brian from Inner Mongolia. I am the lucky one that had the opportunity to attend this special winter camp. During the winter camp, which gave me a lot of pleasure, my English improved and I made friends with other camp members and the foreign teachers. Sightseeing is one of the activities that impressed me most.
On the third day of the winter camp, we went on a one-day tour of Harbin. At 9 o’clock in the morning, we got on the bus from Harbin No. 3 High School to the “Icy World”. It is actually a park. Most of the things in it were made of snow. After about a 30 minute journey, we arrived at the foot of an archway which was also made of snow. I looked up and saw the huge archway. It was not only huge but also very elaborate. I began to admire the technical skills the archway builders possess. As we went on, many other interesting constructions made of snow and ice came into sight. All the constructions were not only large in size but GREat in beauty. One of the constructions was a big dragon made of snow. The dragon looked like a real one. The size and outline of the dragon told us how skillful the workers were. It is a pity if anyone who comes to Harbin doesn’t visit the “Icy World”, because there were some of the “largest” and “longest” things in it. They were really grand. I filled my eyes with all the grand sights. Not only can you have a good view of the ice and snow but you have the chance to get closer to them. There were some activities on the ice and snow. There was a tower made of ice in the “ Icy World”. There was a very long ice slide. The timid ones went down to the foot of the tower on foot. But I happened to be the brave one to go down by the ice slide. It was really exciting, though my clothes and shoes were full of snow.
There were also many other buildings made of snow and ice like the elaborate, statues of people, houses and so on. After visiting so many interesting places and enjoying ourselves so much we had to say goodbye to the white land: “Icy World”. But another exciting activity was waiting for us. It was skiing.
When we came to the ski run, all-white beautiful snow made me feel that the world was made of snow. And I couldn’t resist the temptation to ski, though I had never skied before. After putting on my ski boots and holding my ski poles, I began to ski from the very top of the slope, though the others skied from half way up the slope. The first time I tried to ski to the bottom, it was a failure, for I fell down, because I was too fast. But I didn’t give up because I found it easy to learn. Though I fell down several times at first, I skied very well afterwards. The moment I came down to the bottom at high speed, I felt as though I were flying in the sky. At that joyous moment, I felt I was close to nature and also to the winter camp. Though we kept falling down on the ground to GREet the snow, we never felt tired in this happy time. But time really passed by quickly, our one-hour skiing was over. We put the unforgettable skiing in our memory and left the ski run.
Then we went to “Sun Island”. Though it was called “Sun Island” it was not warm, instead, it was cold. Most of the constructions there were made of snow and there was plenty of snow everywhere. There were many snow houses and they were lovely. We even went into some of them. It was really interesting. There were some people dressed like Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse, and so on. They were very funny and friendly. You could take photos with them anytime you wanted. And there were some animals. There were big dogs and sheep and deer. They were so cute that I wanted to take photos with them but I hadn’t got the courage to do that.
When it was nearly 4 o’clock in the afternoon, our one-day trip was over. We said goodbye to the beautiful tour. After a whole day’s trip we all felt tired but we enjoyed ourselves very much and the unforgettable day would forever be remembered in our hearts.
