全国中学生英语能力竞赛高二赛题的阅读理解部分一般为5—6篇材料，设置30个小题，计30分。与高考等其他考试相比，其阅读理解有如下特点：1、材料新，生词率高，对于词汇量的要求高；2、篇幅多，文章长，分量重。故此，同学们在备考和应试时应注意以下四点：
一、大量泛读，扩大词汇量
考前词汇量的积累和扩展非常重要，因为词汇量过小，将会影响到答题速度，导致不能在有限的时间内将阅读进行完毕。同学们不能仅局限于课本上所学的词汇，而应通过大量泛读或其他方法扩展词汇量，尤其是与当代经济、科技发展相联系的一些词汇。
二、加强速度训练
赛题对于阅读速度的要求明显高于其他考试，因此，同学们在平时训练时就应特别注意速度，应达到80—90WPM（word per minute）。考试时要尽量提高速度，以避免出现时间不够，完不成卷的现象。
三、适当关注国内、国际热点
阅读材料的选材有可能结合当年国内、国际的热点，所以，适当关注一下这些热点，了解一下相关信息，对于解阅读理解这类试题是会大有帮助的。
四、掌握方法，培养技巧
做任何事情，使用不同的方法就可能产生不同的结果，英语阅读理解也不例外。同学们平时就应摸索不同文体、题材的阅读方法和技巧，如应用文，特别是查找信息一类的文章，使用查读法就比较好，可提高阅读的针对性，大大节约时间。阅读中遇到生词怎么办？如何猜测其含义？这就需要平时加强训练。
