盖茨发表主题演讲
微软亚洲研究院十周年创新论坛8月12日晚在香港举行。退休后的比尔·盖茨首次公开亮相，发表主题演讲并与微软亚洲研究院院长洪小文、香港中文大学、香港大学、香港科技大学校长及师生做出交流。
以下为盖茨微软亚洲研究院十年创新论坛讲演实录：
晚上好！我来到这里感到非常兴奋，正如沈先生所讲，其实我们已经计划了一段时间，我非常希望可以来到这里，而且我感到很荣幸可以跟三位校长，三家伟大大学的校长，他们都是微软很好的伙伴，而且也培养了很多非常出色的人才，替我们做软件上的突破。
其实这个星期我有一个非常棒的旅程，开始的时候我有机会到奥运会的开幕式，看到了很多不同的赛事，所有这些都管理得很好，是一个里程碑，而且也展示给世界，就是所有人一起合作，好像中国香港这个方将会成为未来很重要的地方。同时，我也花了一点时间看了奥运会，然后我将会再回到北京再继续欣赏，我感到非常地开心，今天晚上我们可以有时间、有机会谈一个我非常有兴趣的东西，就是创新。创新如果管理得好的话，就可以改变世界。我觉得人们一般都低估了创新的重要性，和创新怎么可以回答很多非常困难的挑战，创新当然是很难去量度的，不像有些数字我们可以找到，比如说改善软件、改善医学、医药等等，但其实创新是可以改变世界的。
创新的步伐比以前更快了，当我年轻的时候，当我读中学的时候，电脑是很不同的，人们认为这些是负面的东西，其实是大政府、大公司的工具，他们觉得电脑是跟人们对立的，它们非常贵，它们经常犯错，而且也很难去改正它们的错误。但是，经过两个突破之后就完全改变了。一个突破就是把电脑基于芯片之上，而且用一个不昂贵的方法来做。英特尔，还有其他的公司就造成了这个奇迹。然后另外一个突破就是软件，建立一个软件的平台，可以让数以千计、百计的公司可以做出创新的软件。
微软非常幸运，可以在这个愿景之中可以真的打造早期的个人电脑，这一个软件的接触也让人可以写成很多很有，或者非常了不起的软件。卖出的个人电脑越多，硬件、软件的价钱其实应该可以下降，硬件的价格其实就是等于制造芯片这一个规模效益。然后在软件方面，我们有发展的成本是固定的，如果顾客越多，价格就可以下降。我有机会可以投资在一个科技，然后我可以改善这个软件。所以，就出现了一个现象，就是在微软里面第一个阶段，在90年代中Windows就是有越来越多公司都支持这个Windows，然后也出现越来越多的伙伴。当然了可能我说的未必很公正，但是我应该可以说，个人电脑可以让人在互联网上连接，而这个也是人类制造最好的一个工具。其实我们有很多不同的工具，可以提升我们人类的，或者人的能力，但是这个是非常重要的一个工具。
就好象中国人发明了印刷，这个是需要很大的创意，而且是要把它不断地来扩大。你会看到电脑、互联网和软件是真的成为非常非常重要的工具。你们想一想，在生物方面的一些进展，我们也需要电脑的软件去明白里面的知识；比如说天文学，你用望远镜，你可以有理论，你可以用不同的数据去测试，科技容许你这么做。原来梦想是可用电脑来实现的。
当我19岁的时候，我有一个朋友他非常明白硬件，他要我读一些关于芯片的东西，然后他说服我离开学校。当然我不是要建议你们这么做，相反的，微软希望你们每个人都完成你们的学业，其他的公司都应该有类似的看法。
当然了大学的生活都是很有趣的，至于我的朋友跟我一起去讨论，当时是这个行业刚刚兴起，我们当时做了一个机器，要在很小的空间里面放下数据。现在我们要调整一下我们的思想，要替换一下这些新的数字。其实已经走了一段很长的路，我们看到很多的数据，有差不多10亿的人用个人电脑在家里面，或者在办公室，其实地球上有差不多60亿人，所以我们还有很多事情要做，我们要把价格下降，也希望把电脑变得更容易用，希望更多的人可以接触到电脑。互联网的利用也在不断的增加、不断的膨胀，中国有最多的宽带用户，香港当然也是在宽带，或者在宽带的数字方面是处于领导的地位。
看看统计数据。比如说手机的使用，手机开始的时候不是一个用软件推动的东西，是用话音去推动的，但慢慢现在已经变成一个平台，是由软件去主导推动的，就好象电脑一样。比如说它可以看地图、看文件，或者用不同的方法来表达一些数据。你也可以跟它互动。个人电脑跟电话之间的边界在未来已经不是黑与白这个情况。另外就是屏幕的科技，我们慢慢就可以远离这个屏幕，以前用的屏幕是很小，那慢慢有更大的屏幕。尽管没有这个理论，用很小的屏幕，但是你也可以把它投射在墙上。所以，硬件的情况就是已经用手机，让手机变得很重要，因为手机无所不在。而且比如说，微软也把这一些的理念应用于哪一个平台上。
个人电脑每年我们做的工作都越来越多，十年前是关于印刷一些看起来很好的一些文件，还有就是用不同的排版，很少的人已经可以像大公司一样印刷一本非常精美的册子，今天我们想的就是怎么编辑电影，而且也让人可以编辑，尽管一个小孩子也可以编辑高清的电影，或者做一个多媒体的摄像，就好象大电影公司可以做的一样。所以，软件的边界也不断在改变，这就是为什么这个行业这么刺激。
其实，今天如果你们仍然年轻，你们刚投入这个数码世界，可以把你非常新鲜的理念带进来，我感到很妒忌你们。因为很多的工具都将会是由软件来推动，比如说电脑，或者就是好像手机这样小的东西可以放在你的口袋里面，那未来可能汽车也是软件推动，你的电视机就只是一个屏幕连接到互联网，我们也不需要再有互联网跟广播电视的分别，因为在互联网你可以找到不同的视频，那我们可以把两个当中最好的东西混合起来。稍后我一位同事会上台做一个示范。
我们到每一个地方，每一个平面都可以成为一个荧屏，互联网也可以做到语音的辨认，或者是笔墨的辨认等等，对很多人来讲听起来让人兴奋。系统的设计就是要担保，或者确保用家用一个正当的方法去处理数据。尽管你用手机，很多的手机公司都知道你到了哪里，到了世界哪一个地方，所以我们要知道，或者社会也需要有更多明确的规定。就是怎么去处理这些私人的资料。我们跟机器的密切，很多人都低估了未来的机器人，就是有新的很多的技术，触感，或者影像，或者人等等这些，很多人觉得这个是很久以后的事情，其实不是，因为机器人可以拿东西，驾驶汽车等等。这个只是硬件上的突破和软件上的突破。微软跟很多的大学合作，看看我们把专业的人员、专业知识运用在机器人这个领域里面。比如说有些人有绘画的系统、摄像的系统，所有这些都可以连接到机器人，不需要重新打造你的应用。就好象电脑里面的一个阶段一样，我们现在其实不知道机器人未来可以怎么去应用，但是肯定这一些发展会出现。
另外就是当你有互联网，你不会只是用软件再一个机器里面操作，其实可以用于很多的机器，互相可以有沟通，这个可以说是互联网的革命，所有的软件都可以连接起来。当你写一个应用的时候，你不需要重新创造他里面的一些功能，你只需要呼叫其中一个服务器，然后拿到这一个资料，然后我们就做其他的工作，然后让这一个软件可以尤其他的人来使用，这样的生产力就可以上升，你就可以专注于你的工作。我们有了这一个技术，其实可以连接到很多不同的一个系统，所以这一个连接，透过互联网去连接，就是所谓的“云计算”，这个最后可以让所有的机器，有很多服务器的功能，还有非常低成本，同时也可以消除最后的限制。我个人的乐观，可以从微软所做的投资可以看到，我们花了70亿在研发方面，因为我们看到这一些未来的新的机遇。
我觉得最让人兴奋的部分，就好象刚才沈博士所提到，就是投资在研究当中，把最好的人才连在一起，跟大学一起携手合作，而且跟进这些新的理念。这一种的研究合作，已经达至在微软里面很多很多不同的地方。Windows里面很多不同的数字，据说研究员也希望微软可以符合或者满足这一些的要求，我们提到伙伴关系，或者创新方面的合作。
其实，所有地方都有非常了不起的大学，我们也非常享受跟大学的代表的关系，还有来自中国的的一些大学的代表。我们是以全球新的一个角度来看，中国跟香港可以代表一个非常大的比重，就是以后在这个区域里面所出现的创新有很多的百分比。在这个范畴可以看到，有非常多人都有兴趣，而且有很多有天分的孩子、年轻人都参与。我们很早已经知道，我们需要有能力去做全球化的工作，而且我们也可以在中国跟一些大学有联系，在1997年我到访一些城市，在1998年就决定要成立这一个研究员，现在已经是十周年纪念，是非常成功的一个过程。在五年之内，我们已经发觉我们做地很好，其实在一年内已经可以达到很大的贡献。
当你在研究十实验室里面有很好的人才，你也知道成功会不断发生，而且会看到更多的成功。今天洪博士是微软亚洲研究院的院长，他们不断地做到很大的进步，不光在产品方面，而且在跟其他机构的合作方面，在培养人才方面，沈博士他今天晚上也会发言，其实在微软他是负责很重要的团队，有非常大的责任，在中国整体领导一个非常棒的小组，做一个很重要的工作就是关于搜索方面的。
另外就是关于人才方面，自从1999年我们有95个学生来自香港的大学，就来到我们研究员里面做见习生，这个是非常好的一个做法。十年里面做了很了不起的工作。
我们讲到其中一块，也可以让你们有一些了解的。就是我们其中一个顶级的研究员，可以向你们展示一下这一个在电视上可以由什么的体验，好了，现在让我欢迎他。
【微软研究员】非常感谢，今天晚上我要做一个刚才盖茨先生所讲的一个缩小版，就是一个电视上做一个搜索。就是刚才他提到电视的未来，就是要连到互联网。那我们可以做什么呢？有了今天这个搜索的这个技术，因为我们的部门就是负责语音的辨认，所以我将会做一个简短的示范，展示这一个效果。那我们可以做的是什么呢？在今天这个互联网电视世界里面，我们可不可以不仅是看电视，我们可不可以主动地去看电视呢？而不是只是很静态地来看电视？好了，我假定当你坐在你的个人电脑面前，现在你就拿着你的遥控面对这一个屏幕，让我们看看我们可以做什么？

刚刚我们听到“全球变暖”这个词。当你坐在你的个人电脑面前，我们可不可以做一个搜索呢？我们可不可以搜寻一下这些识相，一般识相是有语音的，那就做语音的辨认。那你拿着你的遥控，可不可以做一些东西呢？其实答案是可以的。好了，有这一个搜寻的格子跳出来，你可以用你的遥控打一些字来查询。气候改变，我们在电脑上找寻所有的视频，看看有什么结果，就是跟气候有关，这个就是结果。你会看到一些短片，上面有主题，或者标题，然后也有语音辨认的结果，你可以看看哪一个，它们未必是百分之百正确，有一些可能不是百分之百地配合气候改变这个查询，但我们也可以看看字里面的内容，看看里面有没有一些有趣的东西。最后，我们在这里看到气候改变，气候变化。
这是关于气候变化，所以你可以看到那个蓝色的(见PPT)一栏就可以告诉你们，我们是在哪里，是怎样做语音辨认，然后我们可以继续用“气候改变”这个字，其实在美国总统布什他的发言当中也提到这个字，还有更多。就是温度的上升，然后天气降雨的模式有所改变。现在你们就可以看到，或者可以体验到一种学习，我们可不可以有一个个人化的频道呢？比如说气候改变是我现在的兴趣，那我可以造成一个替我多身订造的一个频道，就是气候搜索，那所有互联网上关于这个气候的视频就可以一个接着一个在我的电视上展示。当然了这个个人化，气候改变也是跟金钱相连，那可能你关注怎么可以用一些钱去控制这个气候改变，那你会关注到资金的来源，好了，你可以定下这个四频道，就是纽约交易所这一个片断，那上面的视频，这个标题不会给你太多的资料，但是如果你要搜寻一些东西，搜寻更多的细节，可以辨认出来的东西就可以指标，可以让你知道这一个视频里面是什么东西。然后你也可以调整这个纽约交易所这个搜索，变成纽约交易所微软，然后你可以看看发生什么事情。
(幻灯片内容)：我们听到很多人都说低估了这个系统的影响，而且这个也是关于建筑的物料的，这个物料是美国很多的集成商，我们看到纽约交易所的交易情况，另外也有几个股价波动，几分钟之前我们知道很多人在借钱去投资在纽约交易所，然后我们知道那个交易所那个股票又变得越来越受欢迎了。
好了，你看到下面这个部分，就是一个建议。你不断地在按这一个遥控的时候，你也可以请你的电脑给你一些建议，所以你可以看到下面的部分。就是在检查你在看什么，同时也可以做语音的辨认，看看里面的内容是什么，也可以告诉你正在发生什么事情，可能你希望就是积累下来，然后稍后时间才看，这个就是未来十年创新的其中一小部分。但是有了语音的辨认和搜索，我们就可以很容易找到互联网上的视频作为教育、作为资讯的一些工具。谢谢各位。

计算电脑怎么可以帮助人呢？那我要讲其中很大的一个挑战，在市场里面，各种的创新，不论是新的要务，或者新的软件，要市场完全根据富有的消费者去回应是很容易，他们根本就不会造成一些弱势社群的需要。如果我们想一想市场里面的声音，其实这一些弱势人士的声音是很弱的，不光是在软件，在医药方面也有很多例子。比如说医疗脱发的医药，其实是把医治药品的费用多了10倍；还有就是医疗一些儿童的疾病，当然这个比男士的美容当然是重要很多，那我们怎么可以确保我们真的是做了足够工作。在手机软件等等的这一些的创新里面，我们可以多费一点力去想一下那些贫穷人士的需要。不只是回应价格上的信号，在微软、在亚洲、北京、还有在印度，我们有非常有创意的方法，我们去访问别人，不只是假定电脑可以解决他们的问题，我们非常有创意地在想可以怎么做。我们其中一个解决方案就是在互联网上有一个视频，或者有一个摄像，把这些摄像加在DVD上，其中一个最好的教学课程，比如说关于数学、农业的做法，这一些都已经放在DVD上，DVD其实没有互联网这么高科技，但是在实用方面，对于那些的项目已经证明了可以带来很大的不同。
微软有一系列的东西都是要确保每一个孩子都有机会可以用一个机器连到互联网，如果他们不可以在家里面做，那么就可以在电脑中心，或者图书馆，或者透过跟政府的合作，或者任何一个地方孩子可以用，我们要确保里面有软件，确保每个人都有机会。因为数码的连接已经就好象可以看得懂字一样，应该每个孩子都有这个机会。
在香港我们都跟一些非盈利的机构合作，所以其实你们都听得出来我对于将来非常乐观，有一些东西我们当然要小心，我们要确保科技的进步的影响是我们可以明白的，但是另一方面，无论是软件、农业、能源、科学等等，科学可以承诺给你们的其实是在现在，或者在未来可以看到的比以前更多，这就是为什么我这么乐观。而香港跟中国也可以扮演非常重要的角色，微软也要确保我们可以做很重要的工作。
