Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to      36    .I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85mph     37     we realized we were     38    .Luckily, we saw arrest area ahead. had a brandnew $ 20 bill. I was so     39     because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on     40     seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line.    41     I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. Tout halfway through the meal, I     42     I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. I had just     43     out, and nobody had noticed. I felt terrible. My conscience (良心) opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite. I couldn't     44    over it .I just couldn't go back to the cashier and     45    for my stolen pizza. I was so upset that I     46     to give myself the pleasure of an ice cream in     47    that someone would say, “Hey, Jeff why don't you use the change     48     the pizza instead of that nice, new $ 20 bill?” I was not so     49     of my cash now. For the next two years, whenever I was     50    of the “pizza incident”, I would say to myself, “Don't think about it ...”I have learned two things from this    51    .Maybe I was a fool for     52     in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a     53     pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away from what you have done, your conscience will     54     up with you .This reflects the saying, “A coward (懦夫)dies a thousand deaths, a hero disease.” I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times .If I had been a “    55    ”and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only once, or maybe twice.

It was at least two months before Christmas when nineyearold  Almie Rose told her father and me that she wanted a new bicycle. As Christmas drew nearer, her desire for a bicycle seemed to fade, or so we thought. We bought the latest rage, BabySitter's Club dolls, and a doll house. Then, much to our surprise, on December 23rd, she said that she “really wanted a bike more than anything else.” It was just too late , what with all the details of preparing Christmas dinner and buying lastminute gifts, to take the tine to select the right bike for our little girl. So, here we were Christmas Eve around 9:00 p.m., with Almie and her six-year-old brother, Dylan, nestled snug in their beds. Now we could only think of the bicycle and the disappointment of our child.” What if I make a little bicycle out of clay () and write a note that she could trade the clay model in for a real bike?” her dad asked. “This is an expensive item and she is ‘such a big girl,' it would be much better for her to pick it out.” So he spent the next four hours painstakingly working with clay to make a tiny bike. On Christmas morning, we were excited for Almie to open the little hear shaped package with the beautiful red and white clay bike and the note. Finally, she opened it and read the note aloud. “Does this mean that I trade in this bike that Daddy made me for a real one?” Beaming, I said, “Yes.” Almie had tears in her eyes when she replied, “I could never trade in this beautiful bicycle that Daddy made me. I'd rather keep this than get a real bike.” At that moment, we would have moved heaven and earth to buy her every bicycle on the planet!

Disposing (处理)of waste has been  a problem since humans started producing it. As more and more people choose to live close together in cities, the wastedisposal problem becomes increasingly difficult. During the eighteenth century, it was usual for several neighboring towns to get together to select a faraway spot as a dump site. Residents or trash haulers(垃圾拖运者) would transport household rubbish, rotted wood, and old possessions to the site. Periodically some of the trash was burned and the rest was buried. The unpleasant sights and smells caused no problem because nobody lived close by. Factories, mills, and other industrial sites also had waste to be disposed of. Those located on rivers often just dumped the unwanted remains into the water. Others built huge burners with chimneys to deal with the problem. Several facts make these choices unacceptable to modern society. The first problem is space. Dumps, which are now called landfills, are most needed in heavily populated areas. Such areas rarely have empty land suitable for this purpose. Property is either too expensive or too close to residential neighborhoods. Longdistance trash hauling has been a common practice, but once farm areas are refusing to accept rubbish from elsewhere, cheap land within trucking distance of major city areas is almost nonexistent. Awareness (意识) of pollution dangers has resulted in more strict rules of waste disposal. Pollution of rivers, ground water, land and air is a price people cannot longer pay to get rid of waste. The amount of waste, however, continues to grow.

Recycling efforts have become commonplace, and many towns require their people to take part. Even the most efficient recycling programs, however, can hope to deal with only about 50 percent of a city's reusable waste.

Shyness is the cause of much unhappiness for a GREat many people. Shy people are anxious and self-conscious; that is, they are over concerned with their own appearance and actions. Worrisome thoughts are constantly occurring in their minds: what kind of impression am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? Am I wearing unattractive clothes?

It is obvious that such uncomfortable feelings must affect people unfavorably. Adperson’s selfconcept is reflected in the way he or she behaves and the way a person behaves affects other people's reactions. In general, the way people think about themselves has a deep affect on all areas of their lives. Shy people ,have low self-esteem(自尊),are likely to be passive and easily influenced by others. They need reassurance that they are doing “the right thing”. Shy people are very sensitive to criticism. It makes them feel inferior(自卑).They also find it difficult to be pleased by praises because they believe they are unworthy of praise .A shy person may respond to a praise with a statement like this one:” You’re just saying that to make me feel good .I know it's not true.” It is clear that, while selfawareness is a healthy quality, overdoing it is harmful. Can shyness be completely got rid of ,or at least reduced? Fortunately, people can overcome shyness with determination. It is important for people to accept their weaknesses as well as their strengths, for example, not fair for them to label themselves inferior because they have to be realistic. Living on the impossible leads to absence of inferiority. Each one of us has his or her own characteristics. We are interested in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves. the easier it becomes to live up to our chances for a rich and fulfilling life.

72The first paragraph is mainly about

Athe thoughts of shy people

Bthe cause of shyness

Cthe effect of shyness on people

Dthe questions in the minds of shy people

73According to the wirter, selfawareness is

Aharmful to people

Ba wesk point of shy people

Cthe cause of unhappiness

Da good characteristic

74What is the shy people's reaction to praise?

AThey are pleased by it

BThey feel it is not true

CThey are very sensitive to it

DThey feel thty are worthy of it

75We can learn from the passage that shyness can

Ahelp us to live up to our full development

Benable us to understand ourselves better

Cblock our chances for a successful life

Dhave nothing to do with lack of self-esteem
