One evening, one patron(主顾)bought a ticket at the theater box office, went away, and then returned a few minutes later to buy another one; he went away again, and returned and bought a third ticket. Then he went away yet again, returned yet again and bought a fourth ticket.
By this time the show had started.
The girl in the box office wondered, "Sir, why do you keep coming back and buying more tickets?"
"Every time I try to get into the auditorium(礼堂;会堂;观众席)," the hapless(不幸的;运气不好的) patron replied, "Some chap(<口语>家伙) takes my ticket and tears it in half !"
