“Can I help you？”是提供帮助及应答的交流用语。本意是“我能帮你忙吗？”在商店里，营业员常用这句话表示对顾客提供帮助，意思是“你想买点什么？”类似的表达还有：
Could ／Shall I help you？
What can I do for you？
Is there anything I can do for you？
Would you like me to do something for you？等。例如：
A：Can I help you？你想买点什么吗？
B：Yes．I want to buy a pair of shoes．是的。我要买一双鞋。
A：What size would you like to have？你要哪个尺码的？
B：Size 37，please．请给我三十七码的。
又如：
A：Shall I help you？你要什么吗？
B：No，thanks．I'm just looking．不要，谢谢。我只是看看而已。

Why don't you have a look at the other blouses？为什么不看一看别的衬衫呢？
“Why can't you．．．”和“Whydon'tyou．．．？”都是表示劝告或建议的交流用语，后跟动词原形，意思是“你为什么不……？”，“你干嘛不……？”。在口语中还可以用“Why not ＋动词原形？”。例如：
Why can't you do it yourself？你为什么不亲自去做这件事呢？
Why don't you wash it in cold water？干嘛不放在冷水里洗涤呢？
Why not go and ask him for his advice？为什么不去征求他的意见呢？
3．Come，come．Get him his change，Tod．得啦！得啦！托德，把钱找给他呀。
come在这儿作感叹语，表示不耐烦的情绪。此外还可以表示鼓励、命令、惊异等，有不同的译法：“喂！嗨！得啦！”。例如：
Come，come．Don't be so foolish．嗨！嗨！不要那么傻了。
Come，come，be careful．喂！喂！细心一点。
Come，tell me all about it．得啦，把这件事全都告诉我吧。
